The rest of the piano improvisations are largely "free". I would bring in sketches of tunes and treat them as loosely as I saw fit. I wanted to change tempo, key etc at will. If I wanted to I would stretch out a few bars of a composition and improvise over it.
As far as I am concerned the quality of my playing is largely due to the fact that Phil Punch gave me the opportunity to record at a reduced rate "after hours". I would go in , do a short session for a couple of hours, think about it for a month , and then go back and try again . It all took quite a few months. Thanks to Phil the process allowed me to develop in leap's and bounds as a pianist and conceptual improviser. I am forever grateful to him . It is great to have someone who continues to provide enthusiasm for music and a world-class recording facility amongst pretty tough times for music, especially in Australia.
