I have created some online instructional materials. Its a personal course of study, put together after years of experience teaching and practicing at improvising and composing music. The materials are mostly suited to a pianist (without really being "pianistic"), but the concepts involved could easily be applied to any chordal or melodic instrument. One of the 8 videos deals specifically with my simple approach to piano technique. After paying $20 with Paypal (with a Paypal account or using your credit card) you will be given access to the files. You can download and keep all the movies, documents and manuscripts, and I will happily answer any questions you have about them via email.

Some examples are below

I have created 8 videos sitting at my piano, playing and talking for about 20 minutes at a time. There is a few hours worth of footage. Rather than cover in too much detail overall "jazz" piano concepts, I have tried to include concepts which have been most helpful to me over the years, which have helped me pursue an individual approach to creating music. There are plenty of beginner instructional videos and books already available. This series covers fundamental concepts, geared in the direction to be utilized to create your "own sound".

A good deal of the footage is of me practising these concepts. As a student my question for the masters was always "what do they practice?". I may not be a master but you will know what I practice after you watch these 8 videos. No joke!

It's all pretty straight-forward and easy to understand I think. In order to improve myself I have simplified music theory and what I was taught. Hopefully it covers the most important principles that I use to tackle improvising and composing. That being said, there is plenty of interesting and creative concepts to "chew on ".

The are 8 videos:

1) Teaching Introduction (watch it for free by clicking on it at the top of this page !!!!)

2) Basic Scales

3) Rhythmic Grouping part 1

4) Rhythmic Grouping part 2

5) Linear Concepts

6) Putting it all together

7) Getting through complex changes

8) Piano Technique / How to Practise

There is an essay where I talk for quite a few pages about composing and harmony.

There are 13 pages of etudes (example at top of page)  and transcriptions of my own solos and compositions.

There are a few recordings of computerized improvising and also a recording of me working up the chord sequence to a composition.

There is also a transcription of my computer playing the "ultimate solo" on the same composition (the audio is available for free at the top of this page)
